Hotel Le Metropole 5* - Alexandria

Two obelisks were erected in front of the Caesarium Temple built by Cleopatra in honor of her lover Mark Antonio. According to the French archaeologist Jan-Yves Emperor the obelisks were standing at the same location of the Metropole hotel .

Le Metropole was built in 1902 by Italian & Greek architects, resulting in an outstanding example of 18th century architecture. Recently renovated, the hotel is an historical jewel preserved amidst the vitality of modern Alexandria. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the square that was the famed location of the Obelisk, now a gift to the city of Paris, Le Metropole is within quick and easy reach of many city sites including the new Bibliotheca Alexandria.
